Hu Maxwell was a West Virginia poet, historian and author. Mr. Maxwell attended the Naval Academy before returning to West Virginia to serve as General Manager of the Acme Publishing Co. The Largest publishing house in the state. Maxwell spent only a few years in Morgantown before being appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt to lead a nation wide inventory collection of America's Forests and Trees. During the study, the President would often visit Maxwell and camp with him.
