My older two children have made a routine of waving goodbye to me from our kitchen bay window, when I head out down our driveway. Today, my 1 year old figured out the routine. It made me very, very happy, as you can well imagine.

Fire burned down most of the house leaving just a shell. No one was killed, although many firefighters suffered lung damage from the smoke. The fire started in the basement when a house staff put hot embers on a woodpile. The fire was discovered when the owner - Mrs. Lawson - saw flames coming from the clothes chute. the roof collapsed, along with its unique gables. The fire was finally extinguished at 2:00 PM.
